Free seminar on the implementation of the European EUDR regulation on deforestation-free wood products
The Argentine Forestry Association (AFoA) organizes the seminar «EUDR in Forest Products: Current status of implementation. Regulatory requirements and private experiences", which will take place on Wednesday, November 26, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., via Zoom, with live streaming on YouTube. The European Regulation on Deforestation-Free Products (EUDR) will enter into force on December 31, 2025 and will impose new requirements for forest products entering the European Union market.
The EUDR represents a structural change in the conditions of access to international markets. For the Argentine forestry sector, understanding and anticipating its application is key to sustaining competitiveness and trade with the European Union and countries that trade with them, explained Claudia Peirano, executive director of AFoA. Argentina has 1.3 million hectares of forest plantations, mostly located in Mesopotamia, one of the most productive regions in the world for pine and eucalyptus. More than 90% of the industry is supplied by these plantations, which are developed under Law 25,080 and in compliance with the native forest regulations, which ensures a zero risk of deforestation in relation to the EUDR. Wood from Argentine forest plantations has a very low risk in compliance with the EUDR; and when it comes to wood certified under the FSC or PEFC seals, the risk is zero, stated Peirano. The country has two internationally recognized forest certification systems (FSC and PEFC), which guarantee sustainable management with triple impact (environmental, social and economic).
